VIAGGIO IN SICILIA di LISETTA CARMI

VIAGGIO IN SICILIA di LISETTA CARMI

Palermo Publishing is proud to announce the launch of Viaggio in Sicilia di Lisetta Carmi, a new publication developed in close collaboration with the Museo Civico di Castelbuono. The book presents a powerful selection of black-and-white photographs taken by the late Genoese photographer Lisetta Carmi (1924–2022), drawn from her final reportage Acque di Sicilia, commissioned in 1977.

Carmi’s images turn away from the familiar postcard views of Sicily’s coastline and instead focus on the inland waters—rivers, aqueducts, reservoirs—and the rural communities shaped by them. These photographs, recently acquired for the museum’s permanent collection, are now shown to the public for the first time as part of the museum’s reopening and the launch of a new section dedicated to photography.

Featuring previously  layouts from Acque di Sicilia (Dalmine, 1977), a foreword by Leonardo Sciascia (translated into English for the first time), and new contributions by Laura Barreca, Valentina Bruschi, Maria Rosa Sossai, and Giovanni Battista Martini, the book invites readers into a lesser-seen Sicily, shaped by water, labor, and the quiet dignity of those who inhabit it.

Designed by Michela Palermo, with hand-lettering by Susanna Cavenaghi, Viaggio in Sicilia di Lisetta Carmi continues the editorial dialogue between Palermo Publishing and the Museo Civico di Castelbuono.
